Fraction Calculator
Fraction math, no rounding.
Construction runs on fractions. Tape measures, plans, and stock sizes are all marked in 8ths, 16ths, and 32nds. But most calculators only deal in decimals, which means you spend half your time converting back and forth and the other half wondering whether your answer is right.
This one works in fractions natively. Enter whole numbers, fractions, or mixed numbers using the three-zone keypad. The math runs at full precision behind the scenes and the result comes back as a clean mixed fraction, with the decimal equivalent shown below.
Chain operations the way you'd expect: add, subtract, multiply, divide, in any order, no parentheses. After equals, the result becomes the start of the next calculation so you can keep going.
Common questions
How do you enter a mixed number?
The calculator has three input zones: whole, numerator, and denominator. Each zone has its own keypad. To enter 3 and 5/8, tap 3 in the whole zone, 5 in the numerator zone, and 8 in the denominator zone. The display shows it as a proper stacked fraction.
For a fraction less than one, like 5/8, leave the whole zone empty. For a whole number with no fraction, like 3, leave the numerator and denominator empty.
Can I enter decimals?
Yes. The decimal point key is in the whole zone keypad. Enter a value like 3.25 by tapping 3, then decimal, then 2, then 5. When a decimal is entered, the numerator and denominator zones are disabled because the value is already complete.
The calculator converts the decimal to an exact fraction internally. So 0.125 is treated as exactly 1/8, not as an approximation.
Does it follow order of operations?
No. This calculator evaluates left to right with no operator precedence. So 1 + 2 × 3 equals 9, not 7. The first two values are added, then the result is multiplied by 3.
This matches how most basic calculators work and how most field math gets done. If you need order of operations, do the multiplication or division first by chaining operations in that order.
Why a separate keypad for each zone?
Most fraction calculators make you toggle between fields or use a single keypad with mode switching. That slows you down and creates mistakes. With three keypads, every digit press knows exactly which zone it belongs to. You can enter a complete mixed number in any order, as fast as you can tap.
What happens after I press equals?
The result shows in the display. It becomes the first operand of your next calculation, just like a standard calculator. Press an operator and enter another value to keep chaining. Press Clear to start fresh.
If you start entering digits instead of pressing an operator, the previous result is cleared and a new chain begins.
